Final Farewell to the Riviera

After 60 years on the Las Vegas Strip, The Riv closed for good today at noon. Frank and I took one last walk through the casino on Friday night. It is sad to see more neon go...

So what was the reason for it closing? Are there other older casinos closing too? Have been to NV since 2005 (40th birthday) but hope to come back again some day.

The Riv was purchased by LVCVA in Feb. It just had its 60th anniversary in April. It will be imploded and exhibit and meeting space will occupy the space in as little as 5 years.

Sahara was the last major closing. We may see some changes at Tropicana since that was just purchased. Resorts World on the former Echelon/Stardust site breaks ground today.

Things have definitely changed since 2005 you'd hardly recognize the place.
