Del Mar Racetrack

After our stroll we headed back to the car and drove out to Del Mar. We wanted to see if we could visit the Del Mar Racetrack. There is an OTB, but it was $5 per person to enter and you can't view the track from off-track betting parlor. We will just have to return sometime in its short season during July-September.

We didn't see any horses or races, but we did catch a short parade of hot rods. Stragglers from the car show held earlier in the day.

Once they wrapped up, we headed out and back to San Diego. We relaxed at the hotel for a bit before hitting the Gaslamp later that night.

La Jolla: Whisknladle

We worked up a hunger at the beach so we headed over to downtown La Jolla for a bite at whisknladle it's one of my favorite restaurants. They make everything in house and specialize in local ingredients. This chalk board art in the bathroom is just one more reason to love the place. They get it...

We ordered broccoli soup, but they switched over for the evening menu so we received this sweet potato puree with creme fraiche instead. It was good, but not what we were expecting. They removed it from our bill.

Nom! The cutting board with house cured goodies. Everything was delicious, including the olives. Usually I hate olives. I've since learned not all olives are created equal.

Next up was chorizo date fritters in tomato sauce. Odd combination, but very tasty.

The caesar is wonderful. Only the one we've had at Delmonico has been better.

Then, I nearly declined dessert, but Frank saw that they churn their own ice cream. Twist my arm, I'll have the chocolate peanut butter. He had vanilla. As good as his was, it paled in comparison, mine was one of the tastiest ice creams I've consumed. It was silky and creamy, with chocolately peanut butter flavor in every bite. Bliss.

With our bellies unbelievably pleased we set off for a walk after our lunch. We just enjoyed the lovely afternoon, walking about the shops and whatnot.

I spotted this fun floral vine that resembles grapes.

It was relaxed and wonderful. I love that contentment that rushes over you from time to time. This was one of those moments.

La Jolla Shores

After disc golf, we headed north to La Jolla. We drove up to La Jolla Shores to check out the beach there. It was the nicest beach we've been in the San Diego area, actually, in all of California.

The sand was dirty and glittery, curious as to what causes all the gold flakes. Haven't spotted that on any other beach before.

It looks like there was a massive glitter spill.

We spotted a few friends near the tide pools.

Underwater fun in the tide pools.

A poor attempt at an underwater self photo.

Heading back, Frank couldn't resist getting his feet wet. Ack, it's COLD!!

Eventually his feet numbed and it didn't feel quite so cold. Eventually he got in up to his calves. I did not get in the water. I was in jeans and long sleeves and I was cold... dry.

Sunday we returned to La Jolla, we drove around the neighborhoods and we found one with beautiful homes overlooking the beach. We found a foreclosure, we teased saying it'd be our winter home. December & January would be the only time I'd like to live there, the rest of the year, I'll gladly stay in Vegas. Rather than picking it up for a steal at few million we figure it wouldn't be a bad place to be squatters. It'd be a good gig how ever long it might last.

San Diego: Morley Field Disc Golf

After loading up on carbs and delicious eats it was time to get some exercise. We went to Morely Field Disc Course at Balboa Park. The course was packed. They charge $3.00 a person on weekends. Even if you walk the course, you're supposed to pay. Frank bought a new disc while there, too.

Per usual I enjoyed the scenery, as much as the course.

Spotted shoes trees, I've never understood shoefiti.

It was a nice 19-hole course. Really enjoyed the weather and fresh air. We agreed we wouldn't return on the weekend, but we'd try again on a weekday when we assume there would be less crowds.
