Baños: Zoologico de San Martin

The zoo sits on a cliff in Banos, along the river. They have animals from the Amazon Rain Forest divided between birds, mammals and reptiles. Since we didn't actually go into the jungle (trips with tribes are a min 3 nights) it was a nice way to see the animals that one could encounter. Many of the exotic species are in danger of extinction because of their high value to poachers or for sale on the black market. The zoo works to protect and maintain these endangered animals. Also, rehabilitated animals are released back into the wild when possible.
