Torrey Pines State Park

Next, we went to Torrey Pines Natural Reserve. It's home to the Torrey Pine, the rarest pine native to the US. There is only one other grove, it's on Santa Rose Island outside Santa Barbara. There are a number of hiking trails. Each offers something special. We walked two: Guy Fleming, which was stunning with all the wildflowers and Parry Grove which was incredibly chilly from the breezes coming off the ocean.

The ocean breezes cause these pines to grow awkwardly, those away from the sea grow upright.

This Red Monkey Flower is edible.

The variety from the Yucca family is known as "Our Lord's Candle".

Let's call this the prickly penis cactus

It was well worth the $10 entry fee. Plenty of beautiful sights, plus it was peaceful. We really enjoyed the park.
