San Diego: Little Italy

After the park, we headed back to San Diego. Little Italy was our destination. We hadn't been there in all our trips. It's a cute neighborhood where Italian restaurants line the streets. There were two places we wanted to try there. Rather than choose one, I suggested we pull a San Francisco and try both. Frank was game, I knew there was a reason I married him.

First, we went to Buon Appetitto. They had the best marinara sauce it took major restraint not to go overboard on bread prior to our meal. It tasted like a fresh garden, tomatoes, basil and garlic - Yum!

We shared an order of calamari, which was very good. The rings were just as tender as the tentacles, such a treat.

And we shared ravioli stuffed with goat cheese and sundried tomatoes. Excellent.

We paid our tab and then walked down India street about a block until we arrived at Filippi's Pizza Grotto. It hugely popular. We waited about 20 minutes in a single-file line for a table. We were seated and couldn't help but take a photo of the empty wine bottles that hang from the ceiling.

We ordered a small antipasta salad to start. It was huge, but tasty.

and we also shared a combo: lasagna and cheese ravioli with sausage and a meatball.

It was pretty good. Nothing to rave about. I imagine people grew up with this place and that's why it's such a favorite.

Stuffed we headed back to the hotel to rest up before another night on the town.
